As ancient Palmistry is linked to the 5 element system very
much in evidence within the ‘Eastern Traditions’, it is sometimes called the ‘Air-Line’. (No lines are considered separate
from the type of element shown by the main parts of the hand.)
Like all the major ‘palmer lines’ It should be related to the
shape and size (element) of the hand upon which it is found. The elements as Aristotle put it
inform our ‘view point’s’ upon life. This Line is the middle-line which is often attached to
the Life line. This head-line travels across the middle of the palm from its start on or very
close or touching the life-line (earth–line) near to the base of the thumb. Biological science
has now shown that this line only shows in the ‘foetal hand’, when the brain-stem is complete. No surprise then, it was called the ‘Head-Line’.
This line characterises the ‘type of thinking’ of its owner. It is, according to the ancients,
concerned with our mental attitudes. For example, one would probably expect to see a clear,
straight line crossing the palm on a very practical and very square (earth) hand. But, a sloping head-line (use of the imagination) would be unusual, but could indicate that the owner
would use their imagination in a practical way perhaps an inventor of a designer. It can tell
a great deal about the path of their career, finances hobbies and interests. Decoding takes
much practice and is only learned by seeing the hands and talking with real life people. It is
an acquired skill born of much observation.
For this reason, many people call Palmistry an ‘Art or Craft.’
However, good science is also about careful observation,
measurements, comparisons and constant practice too!
Palmists have to consider the type of line and its psychological input and meaning to the rest of the hand. Nothing is considered independently from other aspects shown in the rest of
the hand. For example, whether it is long /short /clear/
