Spotlight of the Month
The Spotlight of the Month is formerly known as Medium of the Month. We have changed the name so we are able to include some
of the amazing and authentic healers, teachers, and spiritual artists in addition to the gifted Mediums we have been bringing to you
each month. We would also like to introduce you to our new regular Spotlight writer, Colleen Søvik, who is joining us for the first
time this month.
Ann Perry
Ann Perry is a Life Purpose Consultant who uses Numerology, Hand Analysis and Reiki to help her clients find their path and
navigate life’s hurdles along the way. While some of her tools may be scientific, her approach to delivering the messages she receives, is purely intuitive.
Q - I’d like a little background on how you came to where you are today. When did you start working with spirit? Was your family interested in this and you were exposed to these ideas as a child,
or was it something that you came to later in life?
A - I think I have always worked with spirit. I can remember as far back as being 7 years old. I had a
fascination for anything that went "bump in the night." Death fascinated me. The after world fascinated me. The very first adult book I read was "Life After Death." My mother's culture is West Indian.
Jamaican's have lots of interest in ghosts, spirits and the outer world. She taught me to have a healthy
respect and interest for it. So it was an interest that was nurtured in me.
Oddly enough my first name is spelled ANN with no E. The name ANN equates to an "11" energy
which is a master energy. This means that I agreed to come back to deliver a powerful message that
would enhance the lot in life of a lot of people. I've understood since I was 7 years old that I was
meant to be a spiritual teacher. I didn't know what I was to teach but I knew I needed to specialize in
something. It wasn't until 1998 that this became even more evident for me.
That year my brother Grant fell ill with flesh eating disease. He died 5 times in his effort to live. He
did eventually make it but the journey was full of ups and downs for sure. Through this journey I really connected with spirit full barrel! I began taking healing sessions in Reiki. This seemed to clear
the cloudy path I was walking on. I eventually went on to do my Masters in Reiki and I opened a very
busy practice of personal sessions and classes.
Q - Reiki was the first modality of the spiritual/psychic arts that you practised?
A - I "fell" into Reiki in 1998. I was suffering from a pain in my jaw that no one could diagnose. I
went from doctor to doctor, therapist to acupuncturist. I kept telling them to "fix" me. They had all
the certificates. Surely they could find an answer to this excruciating pain I was experiencing. My last
stop was an Endodontist who told me I was simply suffering from stress and that I should go upstairs
to see his therapist friend. I was outraged at the idea I was stressed! (hmmm...maybe I was a wee bit
stressed!) I stomped out of his office and drove away. I will never forget sitting in the intersection of
Quinpool and Robie in Halifax. It hit me like a bag of hammers! "No one can fix me but ME!" So I
immediately thought of a Reflexologist I'd seen years before. "I'll go and see her and she'll fix me!"
Sigh. A step in the right direction but once again I was putting the onus on someone else to "fix" me.
Thankfully the Reflexologist had the intuitive wisdom to know that I didn't need my feet worked on. I
needed a mega blast of Reiki Healing Energy!
Two days after I received this treatment I woke up and noticed I could take a full breath of air. I didn't
know that I was oxygen starved! It felt so good to breathe! The next day my brother fell ill with flesh eating disease. I immediately flew to Toronto to be by his
side in the critical care unit of the Sunnybrook Science Centre. I threw my body over his and asked spirit to allow me to give my brother all the energy necessary to help him to live. Wow. Was I ever depleted after that!!
I thought I was giving him a Reiki treatment. Needless to say I knew nothing about Reiki. I did not know that when channelling Reiki energy you are not giving
of your own energy. Who knew?! (He did however live through the first night defying the odds that he wouldn't make it.)
When I got back home I scheduled several more appointments with my Reiki Practitioner. She didn’t just help my jaw, she helped me to keep grounded
throughout this awful ordeal. It was the worst time of my life and yet the best time as well. It was through this experience that I had many Angel and Spirit encounters. It absolutely assisted me in finding my passion for Reiki and better yet for teaching Reiki to others.
Q - You describe this period as the best of times and the worst of times. I understand that it was an additional awakening for you, which was the best part.
Was the worst because of the serious nature of your brother’s illness?
A - Not only that, although that certainly played a big role. I just wasn’t in a good place in my life, period. I was in “victim” mode. Through Reiki I expanded
my knowledge and shifted my perception on how I looked at things. It not only helped to heal me physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well.
