by Commodore George Lauder of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT.

1691, with Christian symbols and imagery, decorative
patterns, tools and flowers.

332 A. Scarce 19 th Century Nantucket Made Pewter
Wash Basin, cast by Benjamin Field Jr. signed upon
the base “BENJN FIELD NANTUCKET 1863”.
Nantucket’s only brass and pewter foundry was
located at the corner of Washington Street and
Commercial Wharf. The foundry was opened in 1821
by Benjamin Field Sr. and in 1841 he died and
operations were taken over by his son Benjamin Fiel d
Jr., who continued running the business into the Civil
War era. The foundry and land were offered for sale
in 1875 after the death of Field Jr.
