Answer : Fleas don ' t really have their own season . If a flea has a warm body to ride on and a good blood meal , he will live long enough to produce thousands of little fleas . Cold weather doesn ' t kill a flea unless it is in the grass when it freezes . When the weather is changing and those nasty little parasites sense the change , they frantically jump on any fur-bearing host . People , dogs , cats , rabbits , and squirrels ... fleas don ' t care who they hitch a ride on , as long as the body is warm . If you find a flea on one of your pets , more than likely , they all have fleas . Fleas prefer a healthy animal because the food supply is richer .
So , how do you get rid of fleas ? The only way to get rid of fleas is to treat all of your animals , the yard , and your house at the same time . Treat your yard at least two times a year . In the spring , you fertilize and use weed control on your yard . Well , you also need to use a pelletized flea and tick product on your yard . This should also be reapplied in the fall .
The only way to completely avoid a flea problem is to put your pet on a prevention program that not only kills fleas if they bite , but also repels them . If you already have an infestation , ask your groomer or veterinarian for product recommendations . An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure . Start a flea protection program , keep them on it , and give your pets happy , healthy flea-free days all year round !
