1) Check the husk- it should be bright green, wrapped tightly, and slightly damp. Small brown holes mean insects and should be avoided! 2) Pay attention to the tassel- It should be light brown or gold, and slightly sticky to the touch. Avoid corn that has a dry or black tassel, or one that feels mushy- signs the corn is old. 3) Avoid silks on the corn cob that are hay-like. They should feel more like soft, satin-like strings.
