Photographer Chad Weeden captured a handful of the Best of Rhode Island Editors’ Picks winners this year in their storefronts, restaurants or bakeries all over the state.“ It’ s a real privilege to meet these talented and driven small business owners in their inviting spaces. They all shape the community in their own way through their passion, spirit and attention to detail,” he says.“ It’ s infectious, and one of my favorite parts about being a photographer. It makes me so proud to live here.”
Middletown-based lifestyle photographer Maaike Bernstrom spent an entire day observing and documenting the faces of the Washington County Fair [“ A Day at the Fair”], which opened her eyes to the world of 4H and how much care and time the handlers spend with their prized goats, sheep, pigs and cows.“ I saw a young girl brushing her cow and making her look just right— while her mother was braiding the young girl’ s hair to make sure she, too, looked just right,” Bernstrom says.“ I talked with a gentleman whose pride and joy is his restored classic lawn mower, and a mom who was watching her son compete in the same pie-eating contest she did at the same young age.”
