A Note From The Editor:

Hope you ' re having an amazing summer... here are a few feel-good stories sure to make you smile!
A pint-sized pup is being hailed as a hero after saving the life of his owner, who slipped into a glacier while hiking through the Swiss Alps. The unidentifed man fell 26 feet when a snow bridge collapsed. Equipped with a walkie talkie, he messaged for help, but his exact location was unknown. Rescuers were only able to find him when they spotted his tiny Chihuahua frantically pacing back and forth in the vicinity where his owner fell. Both the man and his dog were picked up by the helicopter crew and brought to safety. They say they may never have found him without the help of his loyal canine companion.
Amidst all the heartbreaking loss of life in the Texas floods this past month, one family shared their tender story. Cody Vlaske and his parents managed to escape the rising waters in their home, but were devastated when they couldn ' t locate their dog. Going back when the water receded, the Vlaskes were shattered to find their home was in ruins. But as they were ready to leave, they heard a faint scratching coming from the washing machine. When they peeked inside, they were overjoyed to find their Blue Heeler, who had taken shelter within it. He was alive and well... and very happy to see them!
And, closer to home... Kudos to the Boalsburg Fire Company, Harris Township Road Crew, and University Area Joint Authority for saving the life of a Shiba Inu earlier this summer. The dog got stuck in a storm drain after going through an outlet pipe in his backyard. After much time and multiple attempts to free him, it was decided that the actual road had to be cut to access the portion of pipe the pup was stuck in. After nearly six hours, the dog was able to walk out on his own and greet his anxious family, neighbors, and rescue personnel, in good shape and spirits!
These stories remind us that even in the midst of life’ s challenges- whether it’ s natural disaster, a dangerous fall, or a curious pup gone astray- hope, love, and community shine through. From brave little dogs to determined rescuers, the heartwarming outcomes highlight the incredible bonds we share with our pets and the power of people coming together. Here ' s to the everyday heroes, both human and canine, who make the world a little brighter.
