Middle and high school students will be released at the back door by the parking lot of the McLain building. Students must remain inside the lines of the painted box on the asphalt located at the back door until they see their ride has arrived. Students are not permitted to“ hang out” in the parking lot, as this is a safety risk. Parents are welcome to park and supervise their McLain students in the field area if they wish to allow their students to socialize under their direct supervision. Please remind your students that the playscape is only designed for students up through Grade 5.
Dismissal Notes: If your child will be going home with a friend after school, we must have a note from both you and the parent with whom your child will be riding. If an alternate ride arrangement is necessary, we require a note from you indicating the adult’ s name and relationship to your child. S / he may be asked to provide some form of identification. If a last-minute situation does not allow you time to notify us in writing, please call the school office as soon as possible.
Dismissal Safety Tips 1. Monitor your speed! Please remember to drive slowly( not exceeding 10 mph), stay alert, and watch for pedestrians, especially small children! 2. Stop for pedestrians! Please remember to stop for pedestrians at all crosswalks. 3. Supervise your children. Students are not permitted to play on the playground or socialize on the field after school without a parent / guardian accompanying them.( See below for more information about using the playground after school.)
4. No basketball is permitted on the blacktop directly after school. The parking lot play area, including the basketball hoops, is not available until 3:30 PM( when traffic is significantly reduced). Please do not allow your child to play on the blacktop during this busy pick-up time, as this is a safety issue.
5. Students are responsible for following school rules while playing on campus, even when under parental supervision after school.( Refer to the Parent-Student Handbook for playground rules.) 6. Students are not permitted to play beyond the oak tree line( as the field extends toward the McLain building and Main Street); they must never play around the McLain building.
Playground Use After School MCN( our host church) invites CCS parents to visit with one another after dismissal until 4:00( at their own risk). The playground closes at 4:00 PM to allow our extended day program( GLC) to use the space. Please note, however, that the playground and field are not open to the public until 5:30 each evening, after GLC has concluded( as is posted on the signs near the playground).
Volunteer Driver Applications We need parent drivers for a variety of reasons throughout the school year. Every volunteer driver must complete the Approved Driver Application. CLICK HERE to download this form, which can also be accessed on the CCS app. Please note that the State of Connecticut requires us to conduct a DCF Background Check on all volunteers, so a third page has been added to the application packet. The background check is conducted ONCE( forever); it is not repeated once approved. It would be much easier for our teachers, coaches, and the school office if every potential parent driver completed this application at the beginning of the school year, even if you end up not serving as a driver during the year.
Growing Like Christ( GLC) GLC is Cornerstone’ s extended day program, which provides a safe, caring, and enriching environment after the school day has ended. The program is available for students enrolled in Pre-K through Grade 5 each school day from school dismissal until 5:30 PM. You may CLICK HERE to download a GLC Registration Form, or you can contact the school office to have one mailed to your home. Students in all other grades must be picked up at dismissal( no later than 3:15).
