LAKE MARION BATHYMETRY
Hood College recently surveyed Lake Marian & its bathymetry . The baseline survey is anticipated to facilitate future infilling assessments , emergency responses , biological monitoring & remediation , and recreators .
In addition to establishing the lake bathymetry , the survey determined the following key parameters :
• Size : 3.5 acres
• Max depth : 8.5 feet
• Avg . depth : 0.9 feet
• Volume : 1 million gals .

From Memorial Day to Labor Day , Lake Linganore water quality testing results are posted Monday through Friday on lakelinganore . org / lakes . Daily results can be found on Facebook at Friends of the Lake • Lake Linganore at Eaglehead .
Find online :
• Blue-green algae ( cyanobacteria ) field screen
• Prior day lake E . coli bacteria concentrations
• Probability of current day E . coli concentrations exceeding Maryland ’ s public beach action value ( BAV ) based on USEPA Virtual Beach model calibrated to Lake Linganore historical data with visual green ( low ) / yellow ( moderate ) / red ( high )

This year , signs were placed at Coldstream and Nightingale Beaches with a QR code for Members to scan directing them to the testing results LLA posts Monday through Friday ( see image for sign rendering ).
E . coli ( and other runoff contaminant ) concentrations can “ spike ” after it rains . So , as long as it doesn ’ t rain , you can use the prior day E . coli concentration and model predictions to make an informed decision about today .
Lake Linganore is no exception to Maryland Department of the Environment ’ s general advice that “… you should avoid swimming in natural waters within 48 hours of a heavy rain event …”.
