Step 1 : Push the black release tab down and lift the cover .
Step 2 : Pick up the life ring and remove from the stand .
Step 3 : Grab the rope and remove from the stand .
Step 4 : Loosen rope to allow throwing distance .
Step 5 : Position both hands on the ring in one of two main ways
1 . Two hands next to each other , “ hugging ” the top of the buoy ( one palm facing downward and the other palm facing upward )
2 . Dominant throwing hand holding the ring rope and the other one grabbing the top of the ring

Step 6 ( a-c ): Throw the ring across your body like a disc to the distressed swimmer . Aim your throw so that the ring will fall within arm ’ s reach of the swimmer . If misaimed , pull the ring buoy in and try again ( ensure you hold the end of the line if needed ).
Step 7 : Slowly pull distressed swimmer to safety until emergency personnel arrives .
Note : It is essential to not tamper with the life ring buoy stands . The ring and rope are set up and checked periodically by LLA . However , if tampered with ( i . e ., rope tangled ), it can waste precious time to fix or move to the next stand .
