the ball still ends up the green most of the time . Finally , if you miss a little right , typically the ball ends up in a space right of the green you ’ ll have a chance to get up & down to save your par .
Short Game :
You have missed the green and are now inside 25 to 50 yards of the middle of the green . The goal here is to try to pitch or chip the ball as close as possible onto to the flagstick . Targeting in this area is a little more limited with you being so close to the green , but there are a couple of things to consider . Where is the pin location ? Is the pin in an area that has slope moving a certain direction . This kind of slope , like we will discuss in putting , can certainly have an effect on my intended target line . These close shots around the green can present a player with a more obvious target line when you can see the entire putting surface when you ’ re standing by your ball . However , sometimes the green is a “ raised ” putting green when you ’ re hitting this short game shot . These shots do not allow the player to see much or possibly any of the putting green . From these situations , walk up the slope of the green complex from your ball so you can see the putting green surface . Now walk back down to your ball and pick a specific spot on that incline going up to the putting green to aim at your intended target line .
Putting :
Reading the green is one of the 4 skills in putting ! Does your putt break left or right ? Very few putts we take in golf are straight . The first point I want to make is PLEASE attempt to read the green . Too often is see golfers show no intent to actually read the green . Now that you are committed to reading each putt you have , understand recreational putters tend to under read the break by 50 %. So , if the golfer thinks the putt is going to break one foot to the right , odds are its going to break two feet to the right . Once you have decided how much the putt is going to break , pick something in the background of that intended line to aim at . This will be a big help in getting the putt to start of the line you have choose .
