Office
Comforts
Keep yourself and your pearly
whites safe in a corona world.
Aside from handling emergencies, most dentist offices
closed for a few months this spring because of the
pandemic. If you haven’t been for a while, you’ll notice
a few changes at your next routine visit. On arrival, you
may be asked to wait in your car to avoid a crowded reception
area. You may also have your temperature taken,
be provided hand sanitizer as well as asked some health
questions. Some dentists, like Providence’s Gary D. Light,
have installed glass barriers at the front desk that separate
patients and employees. You’ll also find medical grade
HEPA filters and UV lights for constant sterilization. Employees
may be wearing gowns, booties, KN95 and N95 masks.
Lena D. Karkalas, whose practice is on the East Side, points
out that dentists have always used universal precautions
to ensure a safe, clean environment, and are specially
trained to handle airborne pathogens. “We’re considered
masters of sterilization,” she writes in an email. Bottom line:
Your appointment may take a little longer than before, but
all these additional measures will keep everyone healthy.
