the fink Letters to the Editor Putting together a magazine month in month out can be tough, but the good times definitely trump the bad times. Sometimes you do wonder why you put in so much effort, and then out of the blue comes a phone call or an e-mail that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Us publishing lot are quite vain, so compliments are accepted with relish. This month’s letter to the editor is one such example. This letter was written in the old fashioned way, and was posted in the old fashioned way. And it arrived in our post box! I love retro stuff, and being on the wrong side of 60 (or maybe the right side of 60?) the more retro the better. So, plaudits to Leo van den Enge, who divulges that he is a young Hollander. Thank you for a great senior moment, Leo, and of course you will be added to our mailing list, so that you can join the many automotive businesspeople who get their monthly fix of aBr. Dear Mr Erasmus I write to you personally today with a very, very special, rather unusual request! I should like to add that I am a young Hollander of 38 who takes “an unusually keen interest” in automobiles and motoring in general. I must admit to also being an avid motorsport fan, rallying and Formula 1 in particular, spectator sports with a very keen following in the United Kingdom, Europe and here on the continent of Africa. I was recently given an older copy of your Automotive Business Review magazine, which made for very interesting reading. I greatly enjoyed the various interesting articles and many photographs. Would it be possible to add my name and address to your mailing list, thus enabling me the opportunity of receiving your publication in the future? Any “older” copies of your Automotive Business Review magazine will also be valued? An unusual request but one which I do hope meets with your favourable consideration and best attention. Wishing you and all your staff mush success. Hope to hear from you very soon. Sincerely Yours Leo van den Ende Roosevelt Park Johannesburg | words in action 106 august 2014
