Symbols of
Saint Mary
Saint Mary is mentioned throughout the
scripture. In fact, her symbolisms are many.
Saint Mary carried the fire of divinity in her
womb. Moses the prophet saw a burning
bush that was not consumed. Therefore, our
beautiful church symbolizes saint Mary with
that burning bush.
In addition, Because of the simplicity of
Saint Mary, she is called the beautiful dove.
The beautiful dove carried an olive branch
to our father Noah the righteous. The olive
branch was a symbol of the good news of
the deliverance from the waters of the flood.
Likewise, Saint Mary is the symbol of the
good news of the deliverance that has been
done by our Savior Jesus Christ.
her the beautiful dove.
Saint Mary carried the divine Bread inside her
womb. The Manna was given to the Israelites
to eat and live. Likewise, the Lord Jesus is
the Bread of Life and His mother’s surname
is the Pot of Manna.
Saint Elizabeth addressed Saint Mary with
the surname The Mother of God. Also, Saint
Cyril the Great called her Theotokos or the
mother of God when he was responding to
Nestorius in the sacred ecumenical council
of Ephesus. Those were just some of Saint
Mary’s titles in our Orthodox church.
May her intercession be with us! Amen
