Oldschool Audis pay
their annual visit and
Battle Born quattro
founder Sean McClane
tells us about it.
What was the idea behind the Battle Born quattro event?
We were inspired by an event held in Colorado in 2008 which
celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original quattro arriving in
the US. The event brought much needed motivation to UrQuattro
owners whose cars had fallen out of road-worthiness. Over the
course of several months leading up to the event one car after the
other was brought back online. There was goal set to attend the
anniversary. In the years following that event folks realized that
an event was required more often to keep people interested and
get more of these cars back on the road. Other groups tried to put
something together but two years in a row they failed to gather
momentum. By 2010 we in Nevada decided that our group was
strong enough to pull something together and we set a date. In
October 2010 we successfully hosted our first Battle Born quattro
event, namesake reflecting Nevada as the Battle Born State.
What has been the longest distance traveled by an attendee?
In 2014 one of our more enthusiastic folks had participated in the
ALCAN 5000 Rally which began in Kirkland, WA and finished in
Anchorage, AK over the period of 9 days. Owner Keith Barke not
only drove his 1983 UrQuattro the full route, but he then pointed
the car back south and piloted the car all the way to Las Vegas
for our event. More impressive was his 1st-in-class finish, not to
mention the 30+ year old Audi finished 3rd place in the overall
standings.
We love the passion of the old school enthusiasts, what’s your
take?
It’s really important for us to maintain and celebrate these cars
as they played such a crucial ro
