At just 12 years young, the rapper from Wales, UK is quickly becoming a viral sensation as she spreads motivational messages through her songs. Olivia Sinclair revealed her love for singing publically two years ago through Instagram. Her fresh lyrical talent has been sculpted through the influence and covering of current artists including Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Cardi B and Iggy Azalea.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you started singing.

Hello, I’m Olivia Sinclair. I’m 12 years old and I’m from Wales.

Well, I started singing from a really young age because my mum used to be in a girl band, so I grew up with music and she loved it - she still does! I always loved singing.

I started rapping… Well, technically, we were in the car listening to Nicki Minaj and I knew one of the raps, so I started proper hardcore rapping. My mum was like “oh my gosh, you can rap, really?” And I was like “yeah?” … So we decided to make a rap account.

Your initial beginnings brought on negative online feedback (trolls), can you give some motivational words to anyone in a similar situation?

So, yes, I did get bullied. I got bullied in school and I got bullied out of school. And, I was thinking maybe I should just give up and all the hate would go away. But then, I was like, I’m just gonna carry on going…

Just don’t give up on your dream. Just carry on going.

What inspires you when writing new songs?

Well, ‘Troll Doll’ and ‘Fake Friends’ are based on life experiences. I’ve dealt with loads of bullying and loads of fake friends.

At just 12 years young, you’re already out there performing at big events and have built a strong fanbase - from your point of view, what is the music industry like and how does it feel to be so well-known?

It has been tough, obviously, but it’s been amazing. I feel like the harder you work, the more you get out of it. And, I just feel so overwhelmed. I’ve only been doing this for a year and it’s come so far already. I just feel really thankful for all the support that I’ve had.

Do you have any words of advice for young aspiring singers?

Block out all the hate because, honestly, the haters don’t matter. Just keep on going. Never give up on your dreams because you never know where it could take you.
