Christmas In The Sun

I simply love Christmas! Since being a kid I enjoy every piece of this merry season. Even now, being grown-up and father of two I still enjoy the magical state that only this season can bring. For sure, in Mauritius we do not have The White Christmas but rather a Christmas in the sun or in the sand. The celebration kicks off at the start of November with kids' end of year party at kindergarten and schools but I'll be honest, Santa Claus songs have been sounding since September by my lil one.

What I enjoy the most is the Christmas carols. I can listen to these for hours, in various styles: jazz, traditional, classical, reggae and even played in sega. The group Abaim (www.abaim.mu) has done a great Mauritian version of the Christmas carols with the album 'Enn Nwel Larkansiel'. The songs played in their well anchored and recognisable style bring a fresh note which can be experienced on the song 'Alime Teyn' which is another version of Jingle Bells. This album might be a perfect gift for Christmas. It can be purchased can on iTunes, Deezer, CD Baby.

Christmas for me is all about the joy of being together and sharing good times. I'm looking ahead for the meals shared with loved ones, also enjoying the carolling at the conservatory's Songs For The Season concert, my mum's traditional Christmas cake and the last minute Christmas shopping. All these mix up to create a unique moment that I will love to share with those getting on board for our jolly journey. Well for you chaps, my share for this Christmas is from Christophe Rey. 'Xmas In The Sun' is a nice song with a jazzy note inviting Santa for a beer while having his toes in the sand. If ever you want to try a different Christmas as depicted in Christophe's song, come over to Mauritius and we will be dashing through the sand, then resting on the white beach with tongs on our sandy feet, while sun tanning and holding a fresh Mauritian brew.

Merry Christmas Y'all and family!
