The Dance of Life

David Chalmers, Susana Martinez-Conde, Peter Hacker. Robert Rowland Smith hosts.

Our life is made up of experiences. But what experience is remains a mystery. Heidegger thought it inexplicable and neuroscientists cannot find its location. Do we just need a better theory to uncover its secrets? Or is experience somehow both all that we have and yet not part of this world?

Hard problem of consciousness formulator David Chalmers, Oxford philosopher Peter Hacker and New York neuroscientist Susana Martinez-Conde debate the mystery of experience.

Glory versus passion

Sally Phillips, Tom Hodgkinson, Adam Pearson. Oliver Burkeman hosts.

Many of us spend our lives pursuing success and the plaudits of others. Yet from Marilyn Monroe to Howard Hughes we know success can be isolating and unhappy. Would we better to focus on our passions and what gives us immediate pleasure or do we need social success to give us purpose and value?

Star of Under the Skin Adam Pearson and author of How To Be Free Tom Hodgkinson are joined by English actor Sally Phillips to question the seduction of success.
