The Soul of the UK

This month has seen sub zero temperatures and winds of up to 50mph hit the UK shores. Although the weather hasn’t been too forgiving, the UK’s artist have not let that stop them from warming us up with some seriously sensual soul music.

Here is a run down of the UK’s hottest Soul & R’n’B releases over the past few months..

Etta Bond – 4U

North London resident songstress Etta Bond gave us a smooth and silky number which definitely tugs at the heart strings. Her airy and almost hypnotic topline ‘I just wish you could be here’ sits beautifully over a mesh of sonic pads and laser sounding synths. This track is a wonderful blend of sounds, which are accompanied by a song that will linger in your memory continually.

Ray BLK – 5050

This young lady has progressed at a steady peace with her electro soul radio hit '5050'. Originally released last November, the track was placed on the A-list over at Radio 1Xtra last month. With a future bounce and layered harmonies this is definitely one of the most engaging songs of the New Year. The song is about a young lady who seems to be hitting a wall when it comes to her significant other. Be sure to check out the visual.

Samm Henshaw - Autonomy Ft Bonkaz

The 21 year old singer/songwriter (photographed) has been working steadily and keeping us happy with his 80’s soul sound. A clean strong vocal which many have compared to Sam Cook among other greats. This soulful protest song is beautifully crafted and features a guest verse from London Rapper Bonkaz which, in my opinion, is a great huge cherry on top.
