The Aesthetics Of Music

Happy 2016! Excited for everything to come this year, but always remember to live in the present. Don’t be too worried on how this year will turn out to be, make it something as your own, each step of the way! Be happy, be kind and appreciate the little things.

Aesthetic. After a simple Google search, the term can be defined as “a set of principles guiding the work of artists concerned with the appreciation of beauty.” I’ve learned the blurred difference between liking music because it is catchy, and liking music because of the lyrics. A couple years ago, I did a project for a philosophy class in presenting a piece of art that I believe is beautiful. It was based off the lecture of aestheticism, and of course I picked a song.

Now, writing this article, there are so many songs that could make this list, and I’m sure I’m leaving out classics. It was very difficult to narrow to 9 songs, but I picked the ones that immediately popped in my mind. However, these are examples of what I am talking about, the aesthetic beauty in the lyrics. Plus, you might hear music you have not heard before! Maybe after reading below/listening, there can be a new found appreciation in other songs solely based on the aestheticism in the lyrics.

Tame Impala - The Less I Know the Better

“Oh my love, can't you see a child on my mind; Don't suppose we could convince your lover to change his mind.”

The song talks about the jealousy of finding the person you love
