Flashback one year ago. I was still a teenager and interning at two music venues in Chicago. I remember the day @AudiationMag followed me on Twitter, I thought it was so cool. I thought the layout was very complex, the writers were cultured and educated, and that it was something fresh to the scene that I never thought about—an online music magazine. However, I thought it was just going to be another account that found me because I am a college student interesting in working in the music business. I was so wrong.

About a day after they followed me, Mizz-Ruby, owner and co-founder of Audiation, messaged me inquiring about my passion for the industry. More messages were sent and she was inviting me onto the team. ME. ONTO THIS TEAM. Let alone me, being the only one representing the USA. One thing led to another and bam, here we are, one year later. MY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON THE AUDIATION TEAM! This article goes as an appreciation note toward Audiation, Mizz-Ruby, the team and everyone that subscribes/reads! You keep us going, and want to deliver nothing but the best! So thank you, Audiation Magazine has changed my life.

Thinking about the topic of a year ago, a lot has changed since then. First, I’m typing this from my new Apple computer. That’s a step forward! I used to be so scared of these machines, but now I see why everyone considers them to be innovative and easier to use. Aside from computers, I’ve been able to connect with many artists/managers/security/galore in the industry, and it only keeps my dreams that much more alive. I’ve been to more concerts than I can count, been able to interview bands/artists I didn’t even think were possible to connect with, and I’ve gotten to see Europe! (Well, that last part was for my studies, but it still happened this past year). Above all, I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated the feeling of coming home and relaxing in bed, as boring as it sounds, it is nice to wind down from how crazy life can get!

I have been getting questions lately about this new opportunity, so I thought I would address it here. About two months ago, I was hired through CBS Radio as a Promotions Coordinator for a Top 40 station in Chicago called B96. This has been a dream come true. I used to listen to B96 growing up my whole life, so working in that office and with the on-air personalities have been mind-blowing. Especially coming from my year with WLUW, I’ve found a new appreciation for the art of broadcast media, and how much it can connect listeners with music. Here’s some things about B96 I’ve noticed thus far:

I’ve met Nick Jonas, Becky G and the Silversun Pickups.

One of the afternoon hosts, Justin Roman, also is in a group with DJ Flipside who mixes at the 5:00PM hour (17:00 for all my non-American time users) called the Jumpsmokers. Their remix of Demi Lovato’s “Cool for the Summer” actually is track 14 on her new album! Congrats to them!

A previous coordinator, whose position I guess I took, is DJMissMeg. You HAVE to check out her Street Mixes on Soundcloud. Search her user ‘missdjmeg,’ we play her music at every event! https://soundcloud.com/missdjmeg

Many more, but those are my top three. I just want to tell anyone out there, do not give up on what you truly are passionate about. The cliché “don’t give up on your dreams” is too bland for me, if that were true I would be starring on Disney Channel right now. Follow what ignites that spark inside you, what makes you excited when you see it on paper, what you see other people doing and you do wish that you could have their job. Do what makes you happy, and don’t stop chasing that fire. Who knows what you could be talking about in a year…

Let me know your passions! Tweet at us @AudiationMag, or at my personal @babygotbecker. Time goes on, don’t let it slip. Live nice, think big, have fun.
