ROKURO

Interview with B1G-PR0J3Ct by The Sassy Yank

To start with can you tell our readers a bit about youR music background?

I’ve been in to underground dance music since around 1991 when I first stumbled across Pulse FM on the dial and got hooked on the sounds of hardcore and early Jungle, I got two Goodmans decks (actually scrap that they weren’t decks they were hi-fi turntables) and a cheap Kam mixer the following year and started picking up choons from Music Power Records in Ilford and Boogietimes in Romford.

In 1995 after I finished school at the tender age of 16 I visited Ibiza with my best mate and we found ourselves kicking every night off with a visit to the Simple Bar to listen to Jon Ulysses – we were buying mixtapes from him and he’d run out of the commercial stuff and sold us a tape titled “Garage” – that was the turning point for me musically, from that point forward, while I never lost my love for DnB and Jungle, Garage was my thing.

When I got back from the trip I started to buy stacks of Garage vinyl from Music Power from Dean Savonne and Ian the shops Saturday shit! I managed to convince my old man to get me some twelves on finance and then it was game on – almost every spare bit of cash from my day job went on vinyl – but if I’m honest while it was my passion I never dreamed of earning a living from it or playing out however...
