You're also playing 10daysoff festival, what are you expecting?
Well, it’s the 6th time tonight and unfortunately also the last time. The festival will stop with holding their 20th edition. The event, is rather a 10-days event than a festival, 10 Days Off is legendary in our country. Many international artists and visitors will remember the special vibe the event brings allong. The whole city, Ghent, is having their annual 10 days festivities and 10 Days Off is a part of this huge celebration. They bring quality and innovating electronic music. You can discover new talents, new live bands and hear international worldstars. In 2002 I had the honor to play my first gig there, when the DJ-booth was placed on the balcony. If you know the venue, a historical concert room, you’ll also know this was a brilliant few for the artists. For me personally, nothing beats a first time. So warming up Jon Cutler in 2002 was so intense. Friends and fans do speak of other gigs in 2004, on the Fcommunications night, closing Carl Craig in 2006 and some loved my set after Laurent Garnier in 2007. In 2011 another big honor came with warming up John Digweed and Guy J, artists I really look up to production wise.
Do you prepare your sets before events, or do you decide with what the crowd wants? That depends. For massive events I normally prepare my playlist, looking at the stage I’m playing on and artists I’m sharing the decks with. For small clubs or events, I just let it go, looking at the audience and atmosphere and go from there.
What are your favourite tracks?
Hoh, well I have lots of fave tracks. Too many to name really. But if I have to pick a track that really influenced me it’s Voodoo Rady by A Guy Called Gerald, also because the history of this track. Thinking about the Manchester scene, Hacienda, Factory Records. If you ever have the change, do watch the ’24 Hour Party People’ movie about the life of Tony Wilson. He was the manager of Factory Records and responsible for bands like Joy Division, later New Order, Happy Monday’s, Stone Roses and so on. There’s a clubscene from Hacienda in that movie, using the Voodoo Ray track. Video
