Wheel of Fortune –
How Does Your World Turn?
Just the word “Wheel” in the title of this card indicates change … change that is coming, whether we want it or not, because the wheel is always turning. I often refer to this card as the card of karma. (In Arnell Ando’s “Transformational Tarot”, the Wheel of Fortune has been renamed Karma.) Each turn of the wheel brings us something new … how we perceive the “new”, how we perceive the change, determines what comes next. We have free will, we have choice … this does not have to be a scary card.
The Wheel of Fortune is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion.. Some of the keywords are turning point, destiny, a turn of events (fortunate or unfortunate), progress, adapting to change, or resistance to change. As with all things, there are 360 degrees of interpretation here. With the Wheel of Fortune we are looking at the cycles of life, of birth and death, and all that falls in between. We are also looking at cause and effect, at destiny versus fate. The Wheel of Fortune represents a very spiritual journey.
