Everything in nature has a meaning and can be incorporated into a ritual, stones, herbs, shells, woods, and feathers are often used. The direction of the wind even has a meaning as do colors. Often times swords, wands, candles, sand, holy water, oils, and salt is also used. Sage is very important. Sage is dried and rolled into bundles called smudge sticks. They are burned and the smoke is considered to be cleansing. It is used to purify a space or person before performing a magickal ritual. The smoke clears away bad energy and is a form of protection from harmful spirits.
There is some form of fire at every single ritual. Bon fire to candle flame, fire is present. It is a natural cleanser. The smoke carries prayers up to the creator. Music is also important. Drums are the heartbeat of the earth and are the most common instrument used. Any music that lets you express yourself is welcomed. Music is an expression of the soul. In my opinion the creator blesses us with the talent of music so that we can reach more people and spread joy.
The power of thought and suggestion are overlooked in today’s society. Negative thoughts and spoken words have power. If you speak negative words you receive negative things. Speak positive words and affirmations and you will receive positive things. Visualization is utilized to achieve goals. Meditation is used to clear the mind, increase concentration and focus energy. Healing can be performed by thoughts, laying on of hands, through rituals or spells and chakra manipulation (chakras are the seven points in the body where energy is stored).
I feel that I have a very close connection to the creator. I’m excited about my spirituality. I have a place I fit in, a place that feels like home. I can sit on my porch and watch a thunderstorm and feel the power in that storm. It feeds my soul. The beauty of a waterfall, the sound of the trees talking to each other and a deer grazing in a field bring me joy. I can look at those things and have no doubts at all that there is a God, a Goddess, a creator. I can speak to a Christian friend and see in their eyes that we are both in on the same secret. We may not have the same religion but we love our God(s) with equal measure. When someone asks me, “What if you’re wrong” my reply is; I have used the brain that God gave me to study the other religions of the world. I feel that this is the one for me. If I die and find out I’m wrong, I will accept whatever happens to me. But I honestly feel that whatever you believe and place your faith in will lead you to the path you desire. I think the creator wears many faces and there will be more than one correct path when this is all over. Who am I to discount what anyone else believes? I think if you believe it, it is so and no one has the right to tell you differently. I have been an ordained Cleric through the state of Ohio since August of 2004. I have founded two covens, Haven
Hearth Circle and Trinity of the Sacred Spiral, the second of which I am currently the High Priestess. I have written a first and second degree class. I have trained several acolytes and am a leader in my community. My spiritual life is full and complete and this is my philosophy of God.
