Freeing the Spirit - Play!
by Jean Hamilton-Fford
Spirits roam free, this time of year. All Hallows Eve makes that perfectly clear. Mind your ghosts and your goblins, your witches galore! Look for the wee ones, the ones we adore.
Dressed up in their costumes so perfect and lively, Ready with bags to fill with treats and candy! It’s time to PLAY!
It’s that time of year again! Halloween is upon us and, here in the UK, it’s turning into big business. Some like to celebrate it in more “traditional” ways but whether you do or you throw a party or just like the little ones to come around trick-or-treating, it gives you an opportunity to let your inner child out to play!
The minute you engage your inner child and let it run amok with your imagination, inspire your creativity, laugh like a banshee or howl at the moon, you Free the Spirit within you.
The Spirit within isn’t confined and judgmental, stoic and proper; rather, the Spirit within is innocent, playful, loving and full of imagination. The Spirit within loves to engage other people and bring joy to everyday. Play is an essential part of that. If you haven’t had the opportunity to play in a while, I encourage you to give it a go.
During Halloween, you have permission to play. Make a lovely punch, bake pumpkin cookies, carve a jack-o’-latern (but be careful), hang string as webs, a sheet as a ghost (no one says it has to be a white sheet... have fun!), tell ghost stories, roast marshmallows in the fireplace, hold a seance (adult play please), dress up, dance, sing, laugh and enjoy!
Free the Spirit, let loose your imagination, plan for fun and PLAY!
