Back then, assisting your client, friend or neighbor client in making the best decision was a private, personal, dignified and yes, a privileged affair. Our clients came from all walks of life, and it was just as much of a treat then as it is now to transform a scoffer into a believer! However, most people weren’t as eager to share their problems with the world then, as they are now. Nor were we encouraged to read for unknown clients who appeared too “high-strung.” To avoid catering to their fantasies we counseled those who were not under the care of a therapist, to consider attending their place of worship with greater regularity.

So yes. I interviewed potential students carefully weeding out those with “delusions of grandeur and entitlement” for two very good reasons. First, they weren’t likely to finish the class, once they discovered that no matter how “different” they believed themselves to be and “psychic grandma” or not they were going to have work just like anyone else. Even more importantly however, their egotistical attitude and volatile temperament posed a potential danger to whomever they might read for in the future.

Despite the fact that you’re one of todays “better” readers, I don’t envy the work you have ahead of you.
