Bridging The Inner And Outer Worlds
Happy New Year!
The theme of Attune’s January issue is creation, prosperity and abundance, but you don’t need anyone to tell you, the tilt of the Earth decrees January the leanest, toughest month in the northern hemisphere. January is the only month when temperatures at the North Pole can be lower on average than temperatures at the South Pole.
The concept of New Year is historically something of a moveable feast. January, named for the Roman God Janus ‘ianus’ meaning ‘door’ was not introduced into the calendar until 1752. Before this, the new year in Britain began on 25 March, announced by the bleating prosperity of birthing lambs. It could be argued that the new year actually begins the day after the winter solstice, which in the northern hemisphere in 2013 was on December 21 at 17.11 in the afternoon; the summer solstice of the southern hemisphere.
