A few words from Amethyst:
I hosted the Valentine’s Day Tarot Give Away for a variety of reasons. First of all, as far as I know, nothing has been done like this before. After a bit of a rough 2011, I wanted to do something that would bring together the Tarot community in a positive way. And what better time could there be than Valentine’s Day? Also, I tend to attract brand new readers or people who haven’t even heard of Tarot before, so I wanted to provide a variety of viewpoints and ways of reading the cards.
When I first started reading Tarot, I was 12 years old and had nothing to go on except the Little White Book that came with the deck. I couldn’t ask anyone else for assistance as I was raised in a fundamentalist and very restrictive environment. So I treated that Little White Book like my Bible, and I thought the definitions it gave were the only possible definitions for the cards. Sometimes I would get other meanings during a reading, but I didn’t know that it was possible to use any other meanings, and so I would try to “force” those definitions from the LWB onto the reading.
I still run into people, especially those who are just starting out, who believe that some book will hold the ‘true’ definitions for the cards, or that the definitions in the Little White Book are the “true” definitions. My goal now is to always teach people to listen to their own inner wisdom and intuition because you really do already know the meanings of the cards ~ and it’s not just what can be found in a book. In fact, I now teach workshops that have people reading the cards without books or definitions ~ in less than an hour! It took me over 7 years to get to that point, and I want to save people some of that heartache and effort that I had to go through. In fact, I’ve had several people get the hang of reading their cards in less than 15 minutes! You would be amazed at how much knowledge and wisdom you already have inside you ~ if you would only let it out.
