ATS1340 ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES WORKBOOK 1 Issue 3 | Page 8
(13) develop an understanding of the differences between written academic prose and
spoken or colloquial English.
Teaching and learning approach
ATS 1340 is very practice oriented and will focus on explanation of a teaching point (eg: a
grammar point), with follow up exercises in tutorials. This Summer ATS1340 is presented as a
wholly online unit. Lectures will be recorded and accessible via the MOODLE site. Tutorials will
also be recorded and uploaded to MOODLE. You will need to download the Workbooks (1 + 2), as
you will need to have these at hand during both the lectures and the tutorials. I will also be running
a series of online, interactive webinars. Students can log in and we can discuss issues arising from
the program. These webinars are NOT compulsory. However, they provide an opportunity for realtime interaction between the lecturer and students and other students.
