these skills its focus and these skills are taught around and through a generalist, foundational or
cross disciplinary content with reference to broad conceptual frameworks relevant to Arts units.
This unit may be of benefit to: International students, students who have completed VCE ESL,
mature-age students and students who wish to focus on the acquisition of academic language and
study skills.
Mode of delivery
Caulfield (Online)
This Summer, ATS1340 is presented as a wholly online unit. ATS1340 lectures will be available as
audio-enhanced powerpoints. Tutorials will be video recorded and available for download from the
Unit's Moodle site. The Unit's resources will also be viewable as an e-magazine. The link to the emagazine will be available from the Unit's Moodle site. Please note: students can either stream the
video materials and audio-enhanced powerpoints online or download the files to their computers.
Please note: the program can be accessed and completed from anywhere in the world, as long as
you have suitable internet connectivity. All assessments are submitted via the Moodle site and the
exam is an online quiz, again conducted via Moodle. The quiz will be open for 5 days; however,
you will only have one attempt and the quiz must be completed in one sitting within a maximum
period of 90 minutes.
To assist students in the program, a series of online webinar tutorials will be conducted via the
anymeeting.com platform. These will be offered on different days and at different times to try and
accommodate all students. The webinars are NOT compulsory and recordings will be available if
you are unable to join in person.
Please also note that the assessment dates for submission are guidelines only. All written
assessments, however, will need to be submitted via Moodle by Friday, 10th February, 11.59 pm.
ATS1340 English for Academic Purposes is very much "own time -- own pace". All materials and
all assessment tasks will be available at the commencement of the program. You can do as much
-- or as little -- as you like at any one sitting. However, experience has shown it is best to be
methodical. The program is in "intensive" mode and there is quite a lot to navigate over the four
weeks of the program.
How best to go about ATS1340 English for Academic Purposes? Well, every student has a unique
learning style and the program's flexibility is intended to match this. I would suggest the following
strategy:
