Write a 1500 word Discussion Essay on one of the topics below (or a topic of your choosing that has been reviewed by the lecturer)
OR
Compile a 1500 word Analytical Report (headings/sub-headings/dot points) that examines in depth one or more of the various issues
discussed in the program (see suggestions below). Again, if you wish to take up this option, best to chat with the lecturer also.
ESSAY TOPICS: all essays are expected to conform to academic writing and referencing standards and conventions.
1. Critically examine the EAP debate AS IDENTIFIED IN THE PROGRAM: critical versus pragmatic versus critical pragmatic
approaches to teaching EAP. Argue for one position. You may support your argument with evidence drawn from your own experience.
2. A Critical Pedagogy approach to EAP is simply a licence for students to fail. DISCUSS.
3. Contemporary approaches to Plagiarism in Australian universities ignore the cultural diversity of the Australian tertiary student
population and should be revised. DISCUSS.
4. To be relevant, contemporary EAP programs must be sympathetic to the discourse of world Englishes. DISCUSS.
