Transition to Practice

The shift from being a student at college to a practitioner running your own business can be overwhelming for many people and to support student through this journey ATMS set up an annual event called Transition to Practice . This year the event was run in Sydney in February and in Melbourne in August , 2023 .
The Melbourne seminar of Transition to Practice was run at Citadines in Melbourne in August , 2023 and presented by Christine Pope and Natalie Hume . We were fortunate to have sponsorship of the event by Oborne , Orthoplex and fisiocrem . Originally we were expecting around 40-50 students to register however it was good to see 65 students and recent graduates in the room getting ready to set up their practice . There were also a few members who were returning to practice and were keen to update themselves and they contributed so much to the day with the wisdom of years in clinical practice .
The topics covered over the course of the day included setting up your clinic , key legal requirements ( depending on your type of practice ), building a website and promoting your clinic . There was a lot of discussion about social media , which has many pros and cons , however for most new practitioners it is an affordable way to market and promote their business .
Pleasingly many of the students attending already had Instagram accounts and by sharing their pages with each other we were able to build a pool of new followers and valuable sources of cross referral . For those members with an Instagram account it would be a lovely way to support these new practitioners by following their pages . Just search the posts for transition to practice on the ATMS Instagram page (@ nauturalmedicineau ) and you can easily find all the addresses .

In 2024 the plan is to run it in Brisbane earlier in the year and in Sydney in October . If you are a student member please look out for the event in the quarterly calendars .
