Abstract There is currently no drug or therapy that can cure the coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19 ), which is highly contagious and can be life-threatening in severe cases . Therefore , seeking potential effective therapies is an urgent task . An older female at the Leishenshan Hospital in Wuhan , China , with a severe case of COVID-19 with significant shortness of breath and decrease in peripheral oxygen saturation ( SpO2 ), was treated using manual acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine granule formula Fuzheng Rescue Lung with Xuebijing Injection in addition to standard care . The patient ' s breath rate , SpO2 , heart rate , ratio of neutrophil / lymphocyte ( NLR ), ratio of monocyte / lymphocyte ( MLR ), C-reactive protein ( CRP ), and chest computed tomography were monitored . Acupuncture significantly improved the patient ' s breathing function , increased SpO2 , and decreased her heart rate . Chinese herbal medicine might make the effect of acupuncture more stable ; the use of herbal medicine also seemed to accelerate the absorption of lung infection lesions when its dosage was increased . The combination of acupuncture and herbs decreased NLR from 14.14 to 5.83 , MLR from 1.15 to 0.33 and CRP from 15.25 to 6.01 mg / L . These results indicate that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine , as adjuvants to standard care , might achieve better results in treating severe cases of COVID-19 .

Abstract I write to present the case of 2019 novel coronavirus ( 2019-nCoV ) pneumonia with significant eye symptoms at the early stage of the disease . Since December 8 , 2019 , an epidemic of 2019-nCoV pneumonia has spread rapidly in China as well as progressively to other countries , with World Health Organization ( WHO ) declaring it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern [ 1 ]. As of February 18 , 2020 , China reported more than 70,000 confirmed cases and over 1800 fatalities . Apart from the devastating respiratory symptoms , there is a possibility of ocular affections in some cases . There are very few reports regarding the eye symptoms caused by 2019-nCoV pneumonia so far . We herein report a patient with obvious eye symptoms at the acute phase of the disease and shared our successful experience in the management and treatment of such disorder with Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ). A 30-year-old female patient presented to the fever designated hospital located in Shijingshan District ( Beijing ) on February 9 , 2020 due to “ fever with cough for 1 week ”. On admission to the hospital , her temperature was 38.8 ° C , with cough , yellow sputum and throat congestion , and no other relevant signs or symptoms . She also complained of chest tightness , fatigue and poor appetite . Sticky stool and normal urination were accompanied after interrogation . The tongue diagnosis of Chinese medicine showed red tongue and slightly thick yellow tongue-covering . The pulse diagnosis of Chinese medicine showed rapid pulse . This patient also presented with significant eye symptoms of the left eye including redness and swelling of the eyelid , photophobia , tears , blurred vision and difficulty in opening the eye because of sticky secretions . Best-Corrected Visual Acuity ( BCVA ) revealed 0.1 logMAR for the right eye and 0.4 logMAR for the left eye . The ophthalmic examination with slit lamp demonstrated eyelid swelling , and subconjunctival splinter haemorrhage of the left eye ( Figure 1 ).

Abstract Background : The long-COVID syndrome ( LCS ), defined by residual symptoms from acute COVID-19 for < 60 days , affects about one-third of all COVID survivors and is an emerging public health challenge . Empirical data about the range of symptoms or the utility of acupuncture alone for the LCS are very limited .
Case : This observational case study of a 46-year-old male with LCS was conducted to preliminarily define the range of symptoms , a Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ) diagnostic structure , and evaluate the potential utility of prescribed acupuncture for LCS .
Results : The primary TCM diagnostic patterns from this patient ' s LCS presentation included Lung Qi and Yin Deficiency , Qi and Blood Stagnation , and Spleen Qi Deficiency with dampness . Acupuncture for this patient was associated with reduced symptoms and signs of LCS .
Conclusion : A preliminary TCM diagnostic structure for LCS was defined . Acupuncture appears to have been helpful for a patient with LCS . Further research is needed to demonstrate the efficacy of acupuncture and / or other TCM modalities for LCS .
