Transition to Practice 2021
Christine Pope | ATMS Treasurer
Transition to Practice is a one-day seminar that covers all the essentials for students and recent graduates in setting up their clinics . This year it was scheduled for February in Sydney , but with COVID lockdowns it was moved to June 6 and fortunately was able to run before the next round of Sydney lockdowns .
Christine Pope and Natalie Hume ran the Sydney event , which was attended by over 70 students and recent graduates at UTS . Christine Pope is an ATMS Director and Treasurer who holds degrees in both commerce and complementary medicine , and was responsible for the development of the Transition to Practice program for ATMS . Natalie Hume is the ATMS relationship coordinator who liaises with colleges for ATMS and is also a qualified naturopath who has spent twelve years educating and mentoring new practitioners in her previous role at Metagenics as an Area Representative .
The day was split into three sessions : Setting up your clinic , Marketing your business and Website and social media marketing and networking . The first session covered all the essentials for determining your clinic location , your business structure , establishment costs and relevant legislation . Delegates were provided with a checklist for ensuring they had covered all the essentials .
The second session focused on developing a brand and a website , including the options for cost-effective sites through Word Press , Square and Wix . The third session focused on understanding social media and how they can be used to attract clients . The key focus was on the types of social media and the basics of operating each platform .
Feedback from attendees was very positive and included comments such as “ Christine and Natalie were such engaging presenters . They were very knowledgeable with the content and shared their personal experiences which helped make the seminar very relatable and inspiring . Great , practical information .”
ATMS has been presenting Transition to Practice for new practitioners since 2018 . The last 18 months provided some significant challenges , with changes to borders and lockdown restrictions across various states , and the program has been presented by Robert Medhurst in Adelaide and Perth , and Betty Tannous and Christine Pope in Brisbane when borders permitted .
In 2021 Transition to Practice became a webinar series presented by four experts and is available online across Australia for student members at the reasonable cost of $ 75 . The four presenters include Betty Tannous on Setting up Your Clinic , Heather Porter on websites , Kirryn Zerna on social media marketing , and Geraldine Headley speaking on timelines and scripts .
