Antimicrobial analysis of honey against Staphylococcus aureus isolates from wound , ADMET properties of its bioactive compounds and in-silico evaluation against dihydropteroate synthase . BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies . 2023 ; 23 , Article number : 39 .
Background : One of the main challenges of wound healing is infection with multidrug resistant ( MDR ) bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus . The spectrum of antibiotics used to treat them is declining ; thus , there is a need for alternatives . Our study was designed to evaluate the antimicrobial properties of honey , its pharmacokinetics ( ADMET ) properties and in-silico analysis of its bioactive compounds against dihydropteroate synthase of S . aureus using trimethoprim as control .
Methods : Standard protocols were employed in collection and preparation of samples , generation of canonical strings , and conduction of microbiological analyses . Bioactive compounds ’ ADMET properties were evaluated using the SWISSADME and the MCULE toxicity checker tools . The MCULE one-click docking tool was used in carrying out the dockings .
Results : The gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry revealed twenty ( 20 ) bioactive compounds and was dominated by sugars (> 60 %). We isolated a total of 47 S . aureus isolates from the wound samples . At lower concentrations , resistance to trimethoprim ( 95.74 to 100.00 %) was higher than honey ( 70.21 to 96.36 %). Only seven ( 7 ) isolates meet Lipinski ’ s rule of five and ADMET properties . The docking scores of the bioactive compounds ranged from -3.3 to -4.6 while that of trimethoprim was -6.1 , indicating better binding or interaction with the dihydropteroate synthase . The bioactive compounds were not substrates to P450 cytochrome enzymes ( CYP1A2 , CYP2CI9 and CYP2D6 ) and p-glycoprotein , indicating better gastrointestinal tract ( GIT ) absorption .
Conclusion : The favourable docking properties shown by the bioactive compounds suggest they could be lead compounds for newer antimetabolites for management of MDR S . aureus .

Background and aims : Human milk supports pre-term infants to thrive . Yet human milk production can be inhibited when infants are born prematurely . Pimpinella Anisum has been evidenced to increase milk production and infant weight gain in previous animal studies . The present study aimed to determine the effect of Pimpinella Anisum herbal tea on human milk volume and preterm infant weight in human populations for the first time .

The present study aimed to determine the effect of Pimpinella Anisum herbal tea on human milk volume and preterm infant weight in human populations for the first time .
Results : There was a statistically significant difference in terms of milk volume in the first , third , fourth , fifth , sixth and seventh days between the three groups of intervention , placebo , and control ( p < 0.05 ). On the first day , the mean volume of pumped milk in the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group ( p = 0.008 ). On the second day , there was no statistically significant difference between groups . On the third , fourth , fifth , sixth and seventh days , the mean volume of pumped milk in the intervention group was significantly higher than the placebo and control groups ( p < 0.05 ). There was no statistically significant difference in terms of preterm infant weight on days 0 , 3 and 7 between the three groups .
Conclusion : The use of Pimpinella Anisum or ‘ Anise ’ tea can increase the volume of human milk and since no specific side effects have been reported in its use , it may be incorporated easily , cheaply , and effectively in practice where appropriate to the benefit of preterm infant nutrition worldwide .

Effects of Chicory and Fumitory on Hot Flashes Among Breast Cancer Survivors : A Randomized , Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Trial . Journal of Integrative and Complementary Medicine . 2023 ; 29 ( 1 ). https :// doi . org / 10.1089 / jicm . 2022.0624
Objectives : Hot flashes are unpleasant long-term complications of breast cancer . This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a traditional Persian medicine containing extracts of Cichorium intybus L . ( chicory ) and Fumaria parviflora L . ( Fumitory ) extract syrup ( CFS ) compared with placebo when used as intended .
Design : Randomized , double-blind , placebo-controlled clinical trial .
Setting / Location : The Oncology Ward of Shahid Modarres Hospital ( Tehran , Iran ).
Subjects : Breast cancer survivors undergoing hormone deprivation therapy .
Interventions : Patients were randomly allocated to receive 5 mL CFS or placebo syrup three times a day , for 4 weeks .
Outcome measures : The co-primary outcomes were self-reported daily hot flashes frequency and severity scores assessed using self-reported daily dairies , including 1 week of baseline data .
Results : Of the 148 patients screened , 137 were eligible , and 96 were randomly allocated to receive either CFS ( n = 48 ) or placebo ( n = 48 ). All participants who returned their dairies were compliant and analyzed as randomized in the a priori per-protocol analysis . After 4 weeks of treatment , both the mean daily hot flashes frequency and severity score had
