What do you think is the biggest misconception about pro wrestling?
I would say the whole steroid issue. People assume that everyone is on the juice. Everyone is doing all this crazy stuff to look the way they are. But I work my butt off to look like this and in no way am I going to be doing something like that.
Have I been approached about something like that? Yes, but that's not what every single person in this industry is like. I've already met so many people out there and I cannot say that I have had a run in with the steroid issue.
One other misconception is that everything is planned. I trained for three months to learn all of those moves. For instance, I got in the ring with Nichole and we just chain wrestled and it's improv. Chain wrestling is when you get in the ring, lock up and exchange moves and holds, and start countering what the other person has done.
Everyone thinks from start to finish a wrestling match is setup; but that's actually not the case. We call a lot of things in the ring. A lot is improv. We have this big rolodex in our heads of all these moves we've learned and we do just pull them out as the match goes.
If we need to use something that's a little crazier, a little more high flying or something like that, we'll pull it out if need be.
What's been one of the highlights of your pro wrestling career?
Being in Lance Storm's class and having him tell me that there were only two people in the class that at this moment looked like they could be wrestlers and have the skills. I was one of them. I had never been told something like that, so that was pretty amazing.
