Interview:
Xavier’s Story:
“When I migrated from Italy to Australia in 2003, I was
confronted with challenges such as having to learn a new
language, form new friendships and adjust to lifestyle and
cultural differences. I experienced a few months when I felt
lonely and frustrated as a result of my differences.
Overcoming this, and consequently using my experience as a
tool to help others, has empowered me to tackle challenges
with confidence. I have learnt that you can’t always control the
outcome but you can control how you respond to it. I am
therefore well equipped and mentally ready to take on the
transitional stage of studying abroad. I will embrace the
opportunity to immerse myself in American culture, and
proactively contribute to Collegiate Basketball and the College
community. My apathy for others, and willingness to be a
team player has often won the support of my peers and
consequently placed me in leadership roles. I am confident
that I will be able to make a positive contribution to my new
College ‘family’.”
