He has been at Bali Island School (BIS), Indonesia, for 4 years and I have known him for two years as his School Counselor. Keisuke is a friendly, polite, sincere, and enthusiastic student who is determined to become a professional soccer player. One of Keisuke’s main attributes is his ability to balance his passion for sports, especially soccer, with his school work. He trains or does some kind of physical activity every day, yet he keeps up with deadlines, homework, and passes his assessments. His after school activities have never affected his attitude or work. His Math teacher describes him as follows “Keisuke is a model student. He is always on time, enthusiastic and positive. He works well independently or in a group and is consistently contributing to class discussions. He has very good discipline and never shouts out or interrupts other students. He shows a good sense of humour in class, but never to the detriment of the flow of the lesson. He is not a naturally gifted mathematician and so works hard for the good grades that he gets at IBDP Studies level. All in all he is a pleasure to teach and an extremely motivated young man.” As his School Counselor I have regular conversations with him about his career ambitions. I warn him about the small chance of him joining a professional soccer league, but this does not faze him in the least. He is convinced he has what it takes to make it in the world of soccer, and his long impressive list of soccer (and martial arts) achievements leads me to believe he may be right, despite the limitations he has experienced living in Indonesia. He is extremely disciplined, knows how important it is for him to also get a college degree, and he takes advantage of every opportunity that presents itself to compete, train and improve his skills. In other words, I believe that he is mentally a very strong and determined person, able to deal with setbacks and adapt to situations. One example of his ability to thrive in unknown environments with a positive attitude was that he went to UK for the first time last summer, at the age of 15, together with a friend. The friend stayed in a room playing video games while Keisuke showed resourcefulness and independence as he travelled around by himself, on public transport, visiting museums, soccer stadiums, and meeting people. I enthusiastically endorse Keisuke’s admission to your university. Do not hesitate to contact me ( [email protected]) should you have any further questions.
