Joel’s Story:
“I live in the middle of country South Australia, where
my local town consists of about 10 people. We live on
a sheep farm where I am over 100km from any
greens golf course. So growing up, I have been
brought up playing on scrapes golf courses with
significantly less opportunities than that of a city
based player. With this, there are no coaches within
300km of home. Therefore I am completely self-taught
and have never had an individual lesson. In the last 3
years, I have been regularly travelling to Adelaide to
compete in tournaments and work on my game.
Growing up in the country, I was brought up playing
many sports. Due to the lack of numbers in each
community, there is a huge emphasis on playing a
large range of sports.”
Joel’s Life Goals:
“My ultimate goal is to play golf on tour and make a
career out of the sport I love. All I want to do is be
involved in golf, in all areas. College will give me that
option, to study in sports while combining my athletics
to set up my life.”
