Bailey / Inspector Rough uses idiosyncratic mannerisms to emphasize and calm onstage action; Morrissey / Elizabeth’ s restrained depiction increases tension, since the maid’ s actions have catalytic impact, and Deasy, as the designing little minx Nancy, brings emotional abuse full circle.
Considering that the playwright added a verb to the English dictionary, it seems apropos to expound.
