ASUNM Student Special Events is a student run agency with the sole purpose to bring entertainment to the students of UNM. SSE originally operated as four separate ASUNM committees; Cultural, Speakers, Fiestas and Popular Entertainment. In the 1980’s an ASUNM senator combined the four committees and the SSE Agency was born. SSE currently has 5 directors who work to put on as many entertainment events for students to enjoy. Those 5 directors are Executive Director Krista Marrs, Promotions Director Simon Kessler, Cultural Director Marshall Broyles, and Speakers Director Katie Rooke. The directors depend on the amazing volunteers that work with the agency to help put on the events. Nic Meyer is the Volunteer Coordinator, rallying volunteers to see that SSE puts in many hours to give students an alterative to classes. This is an open agency which is constantly looking for new volunteers to help out.

SSE operates based on student fees and they are constantly looking to diversify the events brought to campus. In the fall of 2014 SSE hosted or supported a total of 42 events on campus. These events included noontimes for Welcome Back Days and on Wednesdays. Molodi – a Las Vegas step group, Red Party – the Largest DJ Dance Party in the fall, Graham Schofield – from SyFy’s Face Off for a horror makeup contest, and many other cosponorships. So far in the spring SSE hosted the Jack White show at Popejoy Hall, Fresh Cup – Student Art and Music showcase. SSE is also looking to do more noontimes, another two Fresh Cup events, a comedy show, a Civil Rights Panel and of course the 67th annual Fiestas event.

Fiestas is a huge musical festival hosted on Johnson Field to celebrate student success. There are two stages and several novelty activities, food trucks, and booths for students to enjoy. The lineup for Fiestas will be released after spring break and SSE is looking forward to marketing and getting people pumped for the event. If you are interested in volunteering with SSE stop by the office, bottom floor of the SUB 1064.

Volunteer meetings are held every Friday at 12p. If you have any questions you can contact us at 505-277-5602 or [email protected]!
