Asteroid Clay is a Better Space Radiation Shield than Aluminium Better Space Radiation Shield than Aluminium | Page 7
Paul Van Susante from Michigan Technological University confirms Britt’s theory.
“Eventually everything should be able to be produced off Earth if any serious size
outpost, base or colony is to be considered.”
Experts believe that the asteroids commonly found in outer space could now be the answer to
our search for radiation shielding materials. The clay found in these asteroids is rich in
hydrogen, making it one of the most effective shielding materials available. Britt and his fellow
researchers also discovered that this clay is about 10% more effective in stopping high-energy
charged particles emitted by the sun and other cosmic bodies when compared to aluminum.
