Volume 8 Oct/Nov 2016 Edition Maritime Arresting Technologies Trains Hillsborough Sheriff, USCG, at Port Tampa Bay (Learn More about the TruNarc Analyzer, courtesy of Thermo Scientific and YouTube) The analyzer identifies chemicals with Raman spectroscopy, a well-established technique. Features and benefits of the TruNarc analyzer include: • Pointand-shoot simplicity that allows users to accurately identify narcotics on site with a highspecificity, non-destructive and non-contact test for most samples; • Rapid presumptive testing designed to enable law enforcement to more expeditiously prosecute cases. As an example, the Franklin County, Missouri, Multi-County Narcotics and Violent Crimes Enforcement Unit uses TruNarc to gain probable cause and charge drug offenders. • Field-based sample screening designed to reduce sample backlogs and ensure valuable resources are put to use on high-profile cases and analysis of unconfirmed samples; and • Free library updates that add newly discovered substances to the analyzer’s “fingerprint” library. (In italics please) Highlights of the training included deployment of their revolutionary new reel mounted security-boom system to effectively close off a waterway in under 6 minutes, and the proper deployment of their innovative MK Launcher, a handheld boat arresting system On Wednesday October 5th, Maritime Arresting Technologies, a competitor in the 2016 AST Homeland Security Awards ‘ASTORS’ competition, completed its third and final section of Port Tampa Bay’s Security Enhancement Project. The project, funded by the Port Security Grant Program’s award to Port Tampa Bay, saw the implementation of several new waterway products by Maritime Arresting Technologies. After the innovative products were implemented, Maritime Arresting Technologies commenced a training program with Hillsborough Sheriff’s department and the United States Coast Guard to ensure proper use of the technology. Highlights of the training included: Deployment of their revolutionary new reel mounted security-boom system, which can close off the mouth of a harbor in under six minutes. • The system includes entanglement booms, which are both naturally buoyant and extremely strong • High visibility floats are positioned every 3’, to provide a visible barrier • The 3 dimensional structure of the booms, en-
