These include the removal of barriers to sharing threat information , improving investigative and remediation capabilities , and leveraging a standard federal government playbook for responding to cyberthreats .

But how can agencies incorporate these best practices into their cybersecurity programs ? And do they go far enough ?

Let ’ s take a deeper dive into each of these priorities and suggest how agencies can move towards a more secure cybersecurity posture .

1 . Cooperation is key

To achieve its mission , the U . S . government relies on a vast network of IT and software service providers — many of whom , notably cloud service providers , have unique access to and insight into cyberthreat and incident information on public sector systems .

Yet , due to current contract terms or restrictions , this information is rarely shared with agencies charged with investigating or remediating cybersecurity incidents , including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency ( CISA ), FBI , and the intelligence community .

Removing these barriers is an important goal of the Cybersecurity Executive Order .
