Volume 6 Axis’ Zipstream – More Video & Less Storage July-Aug 2016 Edition at the same time significantly reducing bandwidth and storage requirements. For edge storage applications where video surveillance footage is stored on SD memory cards inside the cameras, the increased retention time is a clear advantage. For cloud storage applications, the reduction in bandwidth consumption allows for more reliable uploads and reduces broadband connection costs. New dynamic frame rate in Axis’ Zipstream technology saves even more storage and bandwidth Axis Communications, the market leader in network video, introduces an enhanced version of its awardwinning Zipstream technology. It now dynamically adjusts the frame rate, instantly adapting to any changes in the scene. The new dynamic frame rate feature offers significant additional bandwidth and storage savings for video surveillance applications. “Since being introduced over a year ago, Axis’ Zipstream technology has been very successful in the market and has received many industry awards,” said Fredrik Nilsson, VP, Americas, Axis Communications, Inc. “With the release of this enhanced version of Zipstream we were able to meet market demand and provide even more storage and bandwidth savings.” (Optimized for video surveillance, Axis’ Zipstream technology is a radically more efficient H.264 implementation, lowering bandwidth and storage requirements by an average 50% or more for many common 24/7 surveillance use cases. It allows customers to make use of a camera’s full resolution and advanced image processing capabilities such as Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) or Axis’ Lightfinder technology while (Zipstream is a video compression technology that cuts your bandwidth and storage needs in half. The latest enhancement of the Zipstream technology includes the concept of dynamic frames per second to optimize the video stream’s bit rate as an addition to the concepts of dynamic Region of Interest and dynamic Group of Pictures being used in existing Zipstream technology. Users have full control over the settings and can customize Zipstream to optimally meet their specific video surveillance needs. Axis’ Zipstream technology with dynamic frame rate is planned to be available in July 2016.
