to send alerts to the Viewer utilizing geofencing
capabilities for better response time.
As a result, law enforcement must hope that its
patrol cars are “in the right place at the right time”
to capture suspect vehicles. Mr. Chigos feels that mobile technology still has
a place and can be used effectively on tactical
vehicles with a covert installation instead of the
industry standard exterior mounted mobile cam-
eras.
This system can be defeated simply by avoid-
ing the patrol cars, whose cameras are relatively
easy to spot, or by coating the license plate with
a non-reflective material that prevents IR cam-
eras from reading it. ARES Viewer works in conjunction with ARES
and offers a particular advantage to the officer
on the street.
John Chigos, CEO & Founder, PlateSmart Technologies
John Chigos, the CEO of PlateSmart, refused to
continue to sell this “old-school” technology any-
more because of its overall ineffectiveness and
the unnecessary burden and danger it presented
to patrol officers.
Realizing that it did not align with the PlateSmart’s
mission to improve the safety of officers while,
still permitting them to do their jobs efficiently.
An intuitive, easy-to-use application provides the
patrol officer a constant, real-time stream of ve-
hicle captures and alerts that includes full-color
images, capture locations, date and time stamps,
and more.

Tracking suspect vehicles becomes an easy task
requiring minimal human intervention, as the
Viewer can receive data from any camera feed
or feeds in the city surveillance system that the
officer needs including main thoroughfares.
Mr. Chigos saw that police officers were still be-
ing killed by the side of the road and they did not
have the information they needed as quickly as
they needed it.
He and his team developed a new application for
this purpose, ARES Viewer.
