the image. I’ve added some notes to the drawing
which are not normally there.
The notes designate the individual zones, from
Identification to Monitoring. It also shows what
the pixels-per-foot are at the back of each zone.
Finally, the notes show ACTUAL distance and
HEED distance.
Since you are going to all this trouble, you might
as well make it fun.
The results will be much more useful and it will
make your clients’ (and the mannequin’s) experi-
ence infinitely more memorable.
One thing I want to make sure is clear; the HEED
Index lets you know the amount of detail you
might expect to see if the object was that far
away from you when you viewed it.
The HEED Index does not suggest that the per-
son will actually appear to be standing that far
away. We developed the Wach Factor which ac-
counts for perceived depth.
How does the Heed Index correlate with JVSG
Software?
The photo below is a screen capture from JVSG
CCTV Design Software.
This software gets many things right. The color-
coded zones are automatically created by the
software. The operator sets the desired resolu-
tion and associated colors for each zone.
Here is a link to a PDF file which shows the set-
tings used to get these colors and zones.
The Wach Factor will be discussed in a future
article. Here is a video which demonstrates the
Wach Factor.
How does the Heed Index correlate with IPVM’s
Online Camera Design Tool?
The photo below is a screen capture from IPVM’s
Online Camera Design Tool with Google Earth
Integration.
This software is great for putting together a quick
design of outdoor cameras.
Clicking on the photograph downloads a higher-
resolution version which allows you to zoom into
I especially appreciate how the software grabs
a StreetView of the scene if possible and crops
to the approximate field-of-view of the specified
camera.
