An Update From the Scorer Education Manager (SEM) By now the season is well and truly underway and I hope that the weather has been kind to you and that you are enjoying your season with your chosen method of scoring. We are lucky to have so many different options for scoring, ranging from a handwritten scoresheet to a variety of software, and I wonder how many of you have given the new Play-Cricket Scorer Pro (P-CS Pro) a try? I grew up using coloured pens on a box-style scoresheet and it took me a long time to see that using software to score with was not cheating and that I still needed to know as much about the Laws of Cricket and how to score it to use the software and that I could let the computer do all the calculations and balancing for me, as I watched more of the actual cricket being played. I settled on Total Cricket Scorer (TCS) as my software of choice, as it replicated my scorebook and gave me a traditional scoring experience on the computer. Having happily used it for nine years, I thought I would find it hard to use any other software. The Level 2 scorer’s course has been revamped with all new material to complete the pathway of scorer education and help you to take your scoring in the direction that you want to. There is a new document available to all scorers called the Scorer Education and Accreditation Summary, which details the scorer courses currently available and explains the accreditation system in place for scorers. You can download it from the Scorer Information folder in the public section of InEx, or ask your County/Regional Scorer Officer for a copy. Enjoy the rest of the season and don’t forget to gather scoresheets and feedback for your portfolio if you would like to be accredited in the autumn. Sue Drinkwater Scorer Education Manager As I write this, we are two months into the season and I’ve been using P-CS Pro for most of this time (with a scorebook or linear sheet for back-up) and been really surprised just how easy it was to convert. It only took a couple of weeks for new habits to form and to find where the bowling figures were hiding! We are hoping to have a new continuous professional development (CPD) module ready for this winter’s training season for electronic scoring using P-CS Pro. Look out for it being advertised in your region this winter. Play-Cricket Scorer in action at a local level. email us at [email protected] contact us on 0121 446 2710 27
