DBS Certification Membership Renewals 2018
Applying for a new DBS certificate has just got easier and a lot quicker!
Applying for a DBS has never been as simple and straightforward as it perhaps should have been, not to mention the time it has taken for the certificate to arrive.
ECB ACO is pleased to say that applying for a new DBS has just got easier and much quicker, as the ECB has now adopted an online application process.
From January you will be able to apply online for your DBS when it is due for renewal. Your County ACO Secretary or Membership Officer will contact you at the appropriate time to start the renewal process with you.
Please note that your DBS is valid for three years, so you will only be contacted if yours is due for renewal. There is NO need to apply for a new one if your old one is still valid.
Here are the answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about online DBS:
1. How long will my DBS last?
ECB ACO has set up the automatic renewal process for every applicant, which means you will not need to renew your DBS again. If you choose to opt out from this, you will need to apply for a new DBS after three years.
2. Will I be sent a renewal notice?
All existing DBS holders will be sent a renewal notice before their current DBS expires. Your County ACO Secretary or Membership Officer will also contact you.
3. How long will it take for the certificate to be issued and will I have to send it off to the GB Group?
Your new certificate will be posted directly to you by the DBS and should arrive within five working days. There will be no need to forward the certificate on as the ECB database will be automatically updated.
4. How do I get a DBS if I don’ t have an email address?
We would encourage you to ask for help with this from a family member or friend. It is a simple process to obtain a free email address and this process is much easier and quicker than making an application by paper. Any email address that you set up can only be used for your DBS application and cannot be accessed by ECB ACO without your permission.
It’ s that time of year again to renew your membership.
If you pay by direct debit then you have nothing to do as we will take the payment on 23 January 2018 and send you confirmation in mid-February.
If you pay by cheque or credit card we have just sent you a reminder with all the details of what you need to do to renew your membership. Don’ t forget, if you want to pay by direct debit( UK bank accounts only), it’ s not too late – and you save money as well!
The main stumbling block to renewal is that a member’ s DBS( formerly known as CRB) is out of date. Your DBS is valid for three years, so please check that yours hasn’ t expired!
If you want to discuss the renewal of your membership, please contact Membership Services by email on ecb. aco @ ecb. co. uk or by phone on 0121 446 2710.

5. Do I have to pay for my DBS?
The ECB online DBS application system asks all applicants to confirm that they do not receive payment for any role for which the DBS check is applicable, except for‘ out-of-pocket expenses such as lunch, travel costs or essential equipment costs’.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to answer the question as to whether they are a volunteer, or receive payment.
6. If I have already made a paper application, should I make another application online?
No! You should wait for your DBS certificate to come through, as previously.
If you have any other questions about using the new online application system, please contact us on ecb. aco @ ecb. co. uk
